I agree with letter writer Steve Duncan that we deserve to know how much the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors spent to replace Sheriff Corpus.
Furthermore, I believe the public should be able to see how all of our money is spent. There should be an easily navigated portal itemizing amounts spent, for what purpose and to whom the funds were directed. This should go for the county as well as each municipality. The public has a right to know where our money goes. Every candidate for office should make a pledge of transparency if they want our votes.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Donnelly. Perhaps we can float an initiatives to require detailed auditing of any agency that spends taxpayer funds, perhaps breaking down past budget actuals with proposed budget spending. Along with requiring detailed listings of contributions to candidates. If we can vote to resoundingly oust a Sheriff, we should be able to pass these initiatives. But be prepared for Democrats to resort to anything and everything to prevent the exposures.
