Editor,

Opposing this war is in effect supporting Iran. The Iranian religious government has threatened and killed Jews, Americans and thousands of opposing Iranian people for 47 years. It is a brutal, violent terrorist government that has sponsored dangerous proxy groups, including Hezbollah and Hamas.
The Trump administration has issued a variety of reasons for the war against Hamas, which are all valid, i.e. prevent a nuclear weapon, to prevent missiles which could reach the U.S., destroy their vast amount of drones and missiles, and destroy their navy. Now Iran is attacking many nearby Arab states. Regime change now is a hope, but after the war, it further weakens Iran. Regime change may be a goal and be accomplished.
A new democratic government of Iran could result in a long-lasting peace for the entire Middle East. The example is World War II: a war for unconditional surrender, followed by reconstruction and temporary control of the governments, which resulted in Japan and Germany becoming peaceful allies of the United States.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Licht, but the fact that Mr. Caggiano gives Hamas a pass for attacking Israel shows we can’t take Mr. Caggiano seriously. After all, if Mr. Caggiano gives Hamas a pass, it is only fair he gives Israel and the USA a pass for attacking Iran. If anything, Mr. Caggiano should be exhorting Iran’s terrorist regime to not fight back.
