Open letter to Sen. Alex Padilla, who, on Feb. 12, voted against an amendment eliminating a $150 billion increase in the Pentagon budget over four years in a Congressional budget reconciliation bill:
Dear Senator,
It is beyond us that you would be OK with a huge increase in Pentagon funding given all the proposed cuts to life-and-death programs. Such a military increase looks especially out of place in light of tax cuts proposed for wealthier-than-average citizens and corporations.
It would seem that we can cut food stamps and health care, but heaven help us if we even think about addressing Congress’ addiction to Pentagon spending.
Mr. Zucker - if you pay attention to the details coming from DOGE, you would find out that they are not cutting program funds for those of us who are enrolled AND entitled. They will be removing those from the rolls who should not be getting the benefits in the first place. That includes Biden's "newcomers", other undocumented characters, but also those who self-enrolled claiming to be eligible. Under Biden there was no vetting at all so anyone could apply for Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, etc., and no questions were asked. Tens of thousands of ineligible types took full advantage of that "generosity" at taxpayer expense. These Schumer and Padilla voters are now protesting in the streets as their gravy train is drying up. Boohoo! Long live DOGE!
The Pentagon needs a house cleaning which Trump is working on. We need to adopt more technology infused weapons that are far more effective and less expensive. We need hypersonic missiles systems. Our “iron dome” needs to be replaced with update technology and AI needs to be infused in every weapon system. This will give us a better defense at less cost.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Zucker, but what makes you think Padilla would listen to you? After all, didn’t Padilla vote no on the Laken Riley Act - basically favoring criminals over American citizens? If you want Padilla to hear you loud and clear, initiate a recall and/or never vote for Padilla again. You’ll do all Californians a favor.
