Was it really necessary to spend taxpayer money and court time on a seven-week trial for the young lady who tried to rescue some chickens? I’m sure the lawyers made out, but everyone else lost. Now they want to spend more money to incarcerate her for 90 days. Couldn’t they have let her volunteer at an animal shelter for several months and called it even. Our jails should be reserved for individuals who pose a risk to others, not for punishment. We should find more equitable solutions rather than tying up our courts and jails at the taxpayers’ expense.
