The TIDE Academy was founded in August 2019. “They came.” Sixty-one percent, socioeconomically disadvantaged Latinos with a dream to make their time at the academy a success and a chance to sit at the table for a chance of a good jobs and a brighter future.
Sadly in the Jan. 16 edition of the Daily Journal I learned that the TIDE Academy might be closing. Several of the meetings held to discuss this issue, did not involve the public, however two of the reasons made known were structural deficit, lack of diversity and enrollment patterns. I feel it is incumbent on me to reach out to other concerned citizens to get out and make suggestions, recommendation, alternative solutions for example, add 10th to 12th grade classes to solve enrollment issues. Suggest better use of school funds, or adding electricity, plumbing and other trade classes that are AI adverse. As a group of citizens thinking together, let us find a solution, rather than tearing town that bright light of an academy that gave hope to so many to be able to dream.
Let us stand united to better serve our community, and help the economically disadvantaged, the voiceless, that they who came may have a chance of a better life in the richest country in the world.
