Bob Turner, formerly of Gracey, KY, passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018,
after a courageous battle with cancer. He led a very successful & actively
involved life for nearly 86 years.
Born at home in Cerulea, KY, “Henderson” helped his parents & 4 siblings tend the
land in Gracey. Eager to serve his country, “Henderson” joined the Navy & served
his country during the Korean War from 1950 – 1955.
“Red” honorably discharged from the Navy & landed in the San Francisco Bay

& supervisory roles, “Bob” ended his career at AT&T Headquarters in Morristown, NJ
after 34 years. Before retiring from AT&T, he served as Project Engineer at Bell Labs
also worked with a variety of other technology companies for an additional 13 years.
In 1954 “Bob” met, married & started a family in San Mateo, CA, with his beloved wife,
Marguerite. They had 3 children & were married for 54 years prior to Marguerites’ passing
in 2008. “Bob” was also sadly predeceased by his son, Jim Turner in 2010.
While busy working & caring for a very active family, “Bob” still made time to take his family
camping every year, to actively support the local Cub & Boy Scouts, to play a leadership role
in the local Little League Base Ball, (subsequently enshrined in the San Mateo Little League
Hall of Fame), a special plaque at the fields commemorated in his honor, to provide support to
the San Mateo City Council, and up until recently, “Mr. Bob” was always ready to lend a helping
hand to all his Mount Pleasant, SC neighbors who have become his family also.
Bob is survived by his daughter Joyce Turner of Mendham, NJ; son John Turner & wife Susan
of Clifton, VA; daughter in law Kristine Turner of Daniel Island, SC; grandchildren Ashley, Austin,
Amber, Mike & wife Kate, Matt & wife Alex; great grandchildren Ava Grace Kershaw & Shawn Turner.
His sisters Virginia White, Peggy Ryan, Ethel Kremer & husband Jerry, as well as nephews & nieces.
