Elizabeth Anne Frykberg, 76 of Hillsborough, California, passed away peacefully in her home on August 10, 2025, surrounded by her son and her sister. Elizabeth was born April 27, 1949, in San Mateo, California, to George and Elizabeth Frykberg.
Elizabeth earned her B.A. in Physics from the University of California, Davis. She later pursued her calling to the ministry, earning a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary.
In 1977, Elizabeth was called to the ministry by the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame, and ordained there as a minister – a trailblazer at a time when few women served in the pulpit. Over the next five decades, she faithfully served the congregations of Westminister Presbyterian Church in Pasadena, California, and The First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame, California. She also shared her faith through her book, The Jesus Fractal, which explores God’s nature and our relationship with Him.
Elizabeth’s faith was strong and steadfast and reached far beyond Sunday sermons. She ministered tirelessly, counseling and offering hope to those in need, and dedicating her life to helping others know God’s love. Her love, wisdom, and example will continue to inspire all who knew her. Elizabeth’s compassion was matched by her dedication. Alongside her ministry, she also worked for more than forty years with her two sisters as a partner in a local commercial real estate company.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Franklin, and her sister, Marie. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Frykberg, and her sister, Georgia Gerritsen. She is lovingly remembered by five nieces and nephews, fourteen great-nieces and nephews, and six great-great-nieces and nephews, each of whom cherished her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering love. Elizabeth’s greatest joy was her family, especially her beloved son, Franklin, whom she loved “to the moon and back.”
A memorial service celebrating Elizabeth’s life will be held on September 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame, 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame, California.
