Andrew (Andy) Francis Klase III passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025 in his home in Foster City, CA after a battle with cancer.
Andrew is survived by his beloved children Molly Vasquez (Klase) and Andrew F. Klase IV, granddaughter, Arabella Vasquez, and stepchildren: Frank Rogers, Jr., James Rogers, Richard Rogers and Michelle Ovalle-Harrison. Andrew’s wife Barbara Agnes Klase (Winter) passed away in 2023 and his step-daughter Linda Kuttler passed away in 2016.
Born and raised in Tenafly, New Jersey, Andrew came to California at the demand of his father as a young adult when his parents relocated to the Bay Area. Andrew built a lifelong career in Special Education. He began as a bus driver, then became a special education teacher and ended his 30+ year career as an administrator for the San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE). He was admired and respected by both his colleagues and the families that he served for his ability to listen, to show compassion and to effectively problem-solve.
Andrew was a loving husband to his wife Barbara Klase. He ardently cared for her during her final months of life. They were inseparable and enjoyed traveling the world together in their retirement to places like Ireland and Chile.
Andrew was a devoted father and grandfather, actively involved in the lives of his children and granddaughter up until the time of his passing. One of Andrew’s favorite things was receiving photos and videos of his beautiful granddaughter, Arabella. He adored watching her grow and was fascinated by her ever-changing language development. His final wish was to celebrate her 4th birthday, which his family fulfilled by throwing her an early birthday party at Andrew’s home just days before his passing.
Andrew was an extraordinary person, described by all who knew him as “kind, caring and generous.” Andrew was a disciple of Christ and an exemplary Catholic. He served as the President of the St. Vincent de Paul Society chapter at St. Mark’s Church in Belmont for seven years.
Andrew touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, especially his surviving family members.
A Mass celebrating Andrew’s life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church, 325 Marine View Ave., Belmont, CA 94002. A reception will be held following the Mass.
