SAN JOSE — San Jose police say human remains found by a passer-by in March belong to a woman reported missing eight years ago.
Police said Tuesday that bones found in a hilly area near an IBM facility in South San Jose were identified as those of Sachiko Omori Marshall, a Japanese immigrant who came to the U.S. 44 years ago.
Officials say the circumstances surrounding Marshall’s disappearance and death are under investigation, but investigators believe she was the victim of foul play.
Her daughter, Judie Hughes-Castro, reported her mom missing in July 2002 after searching homeless shelters and soup kitchens throughout Santa Clara County.
She says Marshall, who would have turned 65 on Sunday, was a "half-transient” who enjoyed drinking and being with people.
