A 31-year-old woman was pronounced dead after she was found inside a detached garage that erupted in flames at a North Fair Oaks residence early Friday morning, emergency responders said.Â
At approximately 4:45 a.m. Friday, crews from the Redwood City Fire Department and deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire at 640 Hurlingame Ave.Â
Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control within approximately 15 minutes, Gretchen Spiker, director of Communications for the Sheriff’s Office, said in a joint press release. The house sustained smoke damage but the fire was contained to the detached garage.Â
The woman was removed from the structure but was ultimately pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene. Two additional occupants evacuated prior to the arrival of first responders, and did not sustain any injuries. Â
Nearby homes were evacuated by deputies as a precaution. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.Â
At approximately 11:45 a.m. Friday, crews were investigating the interior of a blue SUV parked across the street from the location.
