San Mateo firefighters and American Medical Response paramedics tend to a teenager who was hit on the corner of 31st Avenue and the Alameda de las Pulgas in San Mateo Thursday.
A 15-year-old pedestrian was struck by a motorist in San Mateo Thursday evening and rushed to Stanford Medical Center with injuries.
The crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Alameda de las Pulgas and 31st Avenue and the impact sent the teen traveling about 30 feet across the intersection, said police Sgt. Kurt Rodenspiel.
“Based on witness statements it looks like he was on the hood for the better portion of the intersection and ended up falling into the street,” Rodenspiel said. “Speeding seems to be the cause.”
Rodenspiel said the teen was walking in the crosswalk when he was struck. The motorist was still at the scene when police arrived and the circumstances surrounding the crash are under investigation.
The extent of the teen’s injuries is unknown, Rodenspiel said, adding that his parents have been contacted.
