High school and middle school students in Supervisor Lisa Gauthier’s district are invited to submit their artwork focusing on labor and unions in the county by Friday, Aug. 29.
Assemblymember Diane Papan, D-San Mateo, and Gauthier are sponsoring the special student art contest to honor the significant impact organized labor and unions have had in shaping San Mateo County’s history, workforce and communities.
Students who live in or go to school in the district, including Redwood City, parts of Menlo Park, North Fair Oaks and East Palo Alto, ages 11-18 are encouraged to submit original, two-dimensional, nondigital artworks that creatively reflect the theme: “The Role, Presence, and History of Organized Labor in San Mateo County.”
Winning submissions will be recognized separately. Selected artists will receive:
• Commendations from both Papan and Gauthier;
• A private lunch with Papan and Gauthier; and
• Recognition and display of their artwork at each elected official’s office, as well as on their social media channels and websites.
All submissions must be original, two-dimensional pieces, no larger than 8.5” x 11”. Accepted mediums include painting, drawing, prints, mixed media and collages. The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29. Visit asmdc.org/nr-artcontest to submit artwork or for more information.
