San Mateo County community leaders, organizers and residents are invited to apply to be a part of a 2026 committee that will evaluate and consider alterations that should be made to the county’s charter.
As the final action item taken in 2025, the Board of Supervisors opened applications to the public on Tuesday to apply to join the 2026 Charter Review Committee.
The action item was introduced by Supervisor Noelia Corzo, who is slated to be the seated president of the board for the 2026 year.
Every eight years, the board establishes a charter review committee that will review the existing charter, conduct public hearings for feedback and make appropriate recommendations for any revision to supervisors.
Any amendment to the county charter must be placed for voter consideration, and could be on the November 2026 ballot if recommended and approved by supervisors.

The charter committee will be a group of up to 16 individuals.
Each supervisor will select one member from the residents in their respective districts. The remaining potential 11 members will represent one or multiple community interest groups and organizations. These include cities, schools, organized labor groups, businesses, underserved communities, the LGBTQIA+ community, seniors, youth, environmental groups, immigrants’ rights groups and voting rights organizations.
Applications will be open for approximately 10 days. The Board of Supervisors will then appoint all of its members at the board’s meeting, Jan. 13.
