SamTrans is turning up the volume on its 50th anniversary celebration and inviting Bay Area musicians to help create the soundtrack.
The SamTrans 50th Anniversary Music Contest calls on local artists, bands and producers to submit an original song inspired by transit, movement and community connection. From the rush of the morning commute to the rhythm of neighborhood life, SamTrans is looking for tracks that capture the energy of getting people where they need to go.
Open to residents of San Mateo County and the greater nine-county Bay Area, the contest welcomes a wide range of genres and styles, with or without lyrics. Artists may submit original tracks between one and five minutes long in accepted audio formats (MP3 or WAV, minimum 320 kbps) or via a streaming link, along with a brief description of what inspired the piece.
Eight finalists will each receive $500, and the winning songs will be featured on a commemorative pressed vinyl record as part of the SamTrans 50th anniversary campaign. Entries will be reviewed by music and transit industry professionals, with public voting also part of the process during the judging period.
Submissions close Tuesday, June 16. Judging and public voting are scheduled for June 17-23, with winners announced on Wednesday, June 24, at a special event.
