A new ordinance filed in Redwood City would create one of the most expansive rent control policies in the county, as well as include anti-harassment provisions meant to close what advocates say are loopholes in the state’s tenant protection laws.

Opponents, however, say such regulations beyond the state’s 2019 rent control law will hurt efforts to create housing by forcing units off the market and could burden the city with additional bureaucracy.

California Apartment Association has already been proven to be a bad actor in all previous attempts to legislate renter protections. Lying, hiring thugs, confusing voters by circulating their own petitions and falsely claiming they are petitions for rent control. Turning to that organization for comments is highly questionable. All heat and absolutely no light on the issues renters face. Good luck to Faith in Action and others working to make meaningful protections.

I've always been skeptical of the CA Apartment Association. Years ago, they were being investigated for unconstitutional ballot practices and fraud. And raising millions to oppose low-income protections just immediately throws red flags.
