A 72-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in Redwood City late Sunday evening, and the Redwood City Police Department is looking for the driver who fled the scene, according to law enforcement.
The victim was crossing the street around 10 p.m. May 24, near Beech Street and Middlefield Road when a white Toyota Tundra struck her and sped off. The truck was traveling at high rates of speed “while possibly racing another truck,” according to a dispatch call from first-responders.
No suspect has been apprehended as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Redwood City police. The investigation remains ongoing and any witnesses are encouraged to come forward with any information.
The woman was identified as María Pérez Torres, a Redwood City resident, by the San Mateo County Coroner’s office.
The location of the incident is currently marked by candles and flowers.
