A 27-year-old Redwood City man has been charged with kidnapping and attempted carjacking for allegedly harassing two different women in their vehicles and climbing through the window of the second victim’s car, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Josue Hernandez — who has two previous stalking and felony threat convictions, one in 2015 and another in 2020 — pleaded not guilty to the charges June 5.
Hernandez allegedly got into the driver’s seat of a 60-year-old woman’s car while she was sitting on the passenger side waiting for her daughter on June 1. After she screamed at him to get out and called 911, he allegedly left and walked to the car of a second victim on Middlefield Road, according to the DA’s Office.
He allegedly demanded the second woman, a 43-year-old stopped at a stop sign, drive him to Fifth Avenue. When she attempted to drive away, he allegedly hung onto her car and crawled through the window, according to the DA’s Office. He eventually left her car and was apprehended and arrested with a .24 blood alcohol content, the DA’s Office said.
His previous 2020 conviction, which he was on parole for at the time of the alleged crime, involved stalking and harassing an ex-girlfriend and her new partner, sending threatening messages and throwing a brick through a car window, Wagstaffe said.
Hernandez is arraigned on a $100,000 bail and faces 25 years to life if convicted — the current charges would be his third strike.
