The Bay Area continues to be battered by wet and windy weather, and authorities are cautioning residents to be prepared for difficult conditions through New Year's weekend.
A strong Pacific storm is expected to batter the Bay Area early Saturday morning, bringing strong winds, heavy rain and high surf, according to the National Weather Service.
A high surf advisory for the region will be in effect from 6 p.m. today through 4 a.m. Sunday.
A flood watch has been issued for coastal regions throughout the Bay Area and is in effect from Saturday morning until Saturday afternoon, according to the weather service.
The North Bay, where heavy rain is anticipated through early Saturday afternoon, is expected to bear the brunt of the stormy weather as rainfall rates increase through today and Saturday across Sonoma and Napa counties.
A flood warning has been issued for the Napa River at St. Helena and for the Russian River at Healdsburg from 6 a.m. Saturday through 6 p.m. Sunday. An urban and small stream flood warning for Napa, Marin and Sonoma counties is in effect until noon Saturday, according to the weather service.

The North Bay hills will also experience strong gusty winds, but a high wind watch for the region has been downgraded to an advisory, the weather service reported. The advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. today through noon Saturday.
In the East Bay a flood watch has been issued for the East Bay hills and Diablo Range and will be in effect from this evening until Saturday afternoon.
San Francisco can also expect heavy rainfall through Saturday morning, and high levels of rainfall may produce floods in some area creeks and rivers, the weather service reported.
Mudslides are also possible in areas of steep terrain.
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and other city agencies are preparing for stormy weather problems, bringing in crews "to clean catch basins and storm drains as a precautionary measure to prepare for and prevent flooding," SFPUC officials said in a statement.
A wind advisory for the Bay Area is in effect through 12 p.m. Saturday. Winds could reach 45 mph at lower elevations and as much as 60 mph in elevations above 1000 feet, according to the weather service.
