A 22-year-old San Mateo man was arrested early Friday after fleeing from police and hiding inside an apartment complex laundry room, authorities said.
According to the San Mateo Police Department, officers located a vehicle around 12:20 a.m. Friday near Delaware Street and Concar Drive after another law enforcement agency attempted to stop it for evading a peace officer on Highway 92 near Interstate 280.
Police identified the driver as Alexis Hurtadojimenez, who had prior vehicle theft-related offenses and an outstanding $20,000 warrant.
When officers tried to stop him, Hurtadojimenez allegedly fled the area.
Shortly afterward, police found his vehicle abandoned in the 1500 block of South Claremont Street. Officers later discovered Hurtadojimenez hiding beneath a sink in a laundry room of a nearby apartment complex.
After refusing commands to surrender, he eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident, San Mateo police said.
Hurtadojimenez was booked into the San Mateo County Jail on suspicions of evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for public safety, obstructing a peace officer, and the outstanding warrant.
