Experience life in the 1880s at the Old Woodside Store Day this Sunday. The event, sponsored by the San Mateo County Historical Association, will focus on its history and the redwood logging that occurred in the region from noon to 4 p.m.
The Woodside Storekeepers, the site’s volunteer docents, will show the public how to use a two-person saw, split shingles with a mallet and froe, wash clothes the old-fashioned way, twine rope, churn butter and create old-time dolls to take home. Seed spitting contests will occur at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fiddle and guitar players will provide music of the era during the event.
The Woodside Store was established in 1854 by Mathias Parkhurst and Dr. Robert Tripp. Besides being a general store, over the years it served as a stagecoach stop, dentist office, post office and community gathering spot.
The store is a county historic site, located at 3300 Tripp Road in Woodside. Event parking will be at the Woodside Elementary School (3195 Woodside Road) with shuttle service to the Woodside Store.
