A 25-year-old Australian national pleaded no contest to possession of methamphetamine for sale after attempting to smuggle 44 pounds of the drug out of the country Feb. 11, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Yasmine Vantongeren faces up to 16 years and four months in prison at her upcoming sentencing Aug. 18, Wagstaffe said.
Vantongeren had entered the county Jan. 29, and visited Los Angeles before coming back to the San Francisco International Airport with the intent to fly back to Brisbane, Australia, on Feb. 11. A flagged search of her checked bag allegedly uncovered the meth, Wagstaffe said.
