A 24-year old Los Angeles man was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell last June after allegedly attempting to bring 14.2 pounds of methamphetamine in his luggage on a flight to Australia.
The man, Jauan Paz-Guzman, has a pretrial conference set for Aug. 4.
The methamphetamine was allegedly found in Paz-Guzman’s luggage after a random search at San Francisco International Airport, according to the DA’s Office. The defendant had said he was hired to make a music video in Australia and asked to turn the suitcases over when he arrived in Sydney.
A 25-year-old Australian national, Yasmine Vantongeren, allegedly attempted a similar scheme in February. She was trying to smuggle 44 pounds of methamphetamine out of the country to Brisbane, Australia, but was caught at SFO, Wagstaffe said previously.
