Editor,

The presence of Jews in historic Palestine is far outweighed by the presence of the Palestinians. That Jews were persecuted by Europeans [mostly Christian] cannot be the excuse for taking land, and evicting the residents of Palestine, to give the Jews a “safe homeland.”
Oct. 7 was an atrocity, false flag conspiracy talks aside, Israel’s response is disproportionate.
A people who have experienced persecution through millennia must be conscious of not persecuting another group. If the “terrorism” argument is made: Stern, Irgun, Haganah “gangs” were terrorist-freedom fighters, so are the Arabs. Just as the UDS revolutionaries were labeled by the British, the international recognition of the Palestinian state, by all but the United States and Israel, is not pro-Hamas, but pro-humanity.

Thanks for your letter, Azmat, but when Hamas made a choice to attack Israel, slaughter over 1200 people and take hostages (some of which they still hold, dead and alive) they made their bed, so to speak, whether they realized the consequences of their actions or not. Hamas has always had the choice to surrender unconditionally and release all hostages but since they haven’t, they deserve the response from Israel they’ve received, no matter how disproportionate some believe it is. Let’s see if the end is near. If not, more power to Netanyahu to finish his mission.
Super letter Asmat.Says so much valuable info in such a small space. I"m looking at the wise words of folks like Hannah Arendt, Albert Einstein, and Martin Buber back in the 20s,30s and 40s who felt that to try to creat a safe haven for the world's Jewish people under oppression, you had to do it in full co-operation with the indigenous population, and not try to exclude/displace them. So sad their voices we not heeded. So here we are. Still it's never too late but it is getting there.
Cheers, Mike
