Editor,

Let’s face it, Proposition 50 shifts even more power to California’s one-party legislation. How the Democrats on the various media, including the DJ and NextDoor, can without shame declare that Proposition 50 is a democratic pursuit, is truly staggering. It is certainly the result of our severely biased news media reporting and the relentless affliction of TDS.

Dirk, the entire text of Prop 50 is only one page in the voter handbook, so there are no excuses for not reading it. One does not need to be a lawyer to understand the motivation behind Prop 50 which is clearly spelled out in the text.

None of this would have happened if Donald Trump did not first try to pull the exact same shenanigans in Texas and several other red states. The responsibility lies squarely with a president who routinely stretches the limits of legality in his attempts to push his agenda. While I feel bad that the people in far northern California are being lumped in with Marin, why are you not also protesting all of the voters in Texas and elsewhere who are being disenfranchised? Our current political mess is a sad race to the bottom because each side feels obligated to do whatever is possible to stop the other from winning. “Playing by the rules” is out the window; now if the rules aren’t in one’s favor, they are simply ignored or overridden, sometimes by force as on Jan 6th.

Also note that all of the TV ads against Prop 50 neglect to mention that this redistricting only holds until the 2030 census and then the system reverts to the current redistricting commission. Of course, it is *inconvenient* to bring up any facts in ads that might go against one’s desires…

David - I don't support any of these activities in any State. I don't vote in Texas so I don't care about their issues. I live and vote in California and that means to me that we need to go by our rules, not those in another state. Perhaps you can put a finger on prior redistricting in our and other states and perhaps deduct that many of those were inspired by politicians in DC. I still maintain that for any person with a sense of reason, Prop 50 is a slap in the face for those of us who are already underrepresented in DC. Perhaps not in my lifetime, but eventually the tides will turn on those whom you agree with. By then this once glorious State will have sunk to the bottom of the other 49. And all of that for a politician's short term gain. Thank you!

Thanks for your letter, Mr. van Ulden, and your analysis of the threat to democracy known as Proposition 50. I’m not surprised Democrats irrationally rationalize voting YES because when King Newsom tells his servants to jump, they ask how high. The funny thing is is that Newsom’s antics will only serve to show how unqualified Newsom is in running for President. Meanwhile, Democrats continue to be the party of supporting criminals and terrorists over the American people.
