Editor,
Thank you to the authors of the recent SMDJ op-ed on why we needed to fund transit through SB 63 — Supervisors Dave Canepa and Noelia Corzo, SSF Councilman James Coleman, and Samtrans Board Member Jeff Gee.
Let’s also not forget the other electeds who stuck their necks out to save transit, including: EPA’s Carlos Romero, Vice Mayor Mark Dinan, and Webster Lincoln, SSF’s Mayor Eddie Flores, San Mateo’s Deputy Mayor Adam Loraine and Councilmember Danielle Cwirko-Godycki, Foster City’s Phoebe Shin Venkat, SMFCSD Trustees Maggie Trinh and Alison Proctor, Redwood City’s Mayor Elmer Martinez Saballos and councilmembers Isabella Chu and Chris Sturken, Hillsborough Vice Mayor Leslie Ragsdale, Burlingame’s Desiree Thayer, Menlo Park Vice Mayor Betsy Nash and councilmembers Jeff Schmidt and Jennifer Wise, Daly City Mayor Dr. Rod Daus-Magbual and councilmembers Juslyn Manalo and Teresa Proano, SamTrans Board Member Peter Ratto, San Bruno’s Tom Hamilton, SMCCCD Trustee John Pimentel, SMUHSD Board Member Teri Chavez, Pacifica’s Vice Mayor Christine Boles and councilmembers Mary Bier and Mayra Espinosa, and Sequoia UHSD Board VP Amy Koo.
While not perfect, SB 63 presents voters with the option of funding a solution to our looming transit fiscal cliff.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Swire, providing a searchable list and with a few clicks, a sortable list of folks whose dedication to transit is to transport busloads and trainloads of taxpayer cash to union transportation salaries, pensions, and benefits. Remember these folks during upcoming election cycles and do not vote for them – vote NO on SB 63 unless you’re happy subsidizing ever-increasing union salaries, pensions, and benefits. If I recall correctly, some of these transit agencies increased headcount during the COVID years so they could continue operating at 100% or more capacity with only 50% or less demand.
BTW, Mr. Swire, did you vet your list of electeds to verify their stance? Or will you be exposed to potential lawsuits for naming names who should not or do not want to be named? Remember, we're in a litigious society and for some of these folks, their stance on SB 63 may have potential consequences for continued elected service. I’m sure the opposition will gladly tie these folks to supporting unions and their needs over that of taxpayers.
There we go again "While not perfect, SB 63" is a solution?? They did not stick their necks out as there are never any repercussions for poor decisions by these "electeds." What sacrifices did they make? A bunch of group thinkers is all they are while we get robbed. If they really had courage they would have voted against this horrific compromise.
