Along with friends and perhaps a few thousand other protesters, I proudly carried my version of a NO KINGS sign along El Camino Real in San Mateo Saturday afternoon. It was exhilarating to be in the company of so many like-minded people making a statement about the threat to our democracy as we walked 2 1/2 miles to Central Park from Hillsdale. The irony of walking the El Camino Real for democracy wasn’t lost on me. The Spaniards who came to California and claimed it for Spain, named this road (created to connect the 21 California missions) in honor of their ruler, King Charles III, as all roads established belonged to him. No kings in America!
Hey Ms. Murray, in case you missed participating in U.S. history classes, you’ll realize that we haven’t had kings in almost 250 years, which is why this No Kings thing is nothing more than a loitering exercise. Please note that while you may have marched for no money, others marched because they were paid to do so. That being said, continue to march peacefully to your heart’s desire. Don’t worry about the folks taking photos and video of those marching. They’ll be archived and used if violence occurs.
Ms. Murray -- I'm glad you had a good time with friends. But just to point out, WE HAVE DEMOCRACY, (and let's hope we can keep it). President Trump is doing what the people elected him to do.
