After some six years as a deputy district attorney for the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, Oakland resident Amarra Lee was appointed to a judgeship in the county’s Superior Court by Gov. Jerry Brown Friday, according to a press release issued by the governor’s office.

Lee, 37, was among 10 other judges who were appointed to superior court judgeships across the state Friday and will be the first African-American woman ever appointed to the San Mateo County Superior Court. She fills a vacancy created by the conversion of a court commissioner position in the San Mateo County Superior Court Aug. 28, according to the release.
