Redwood City Planning Commissioner Maggie Cornejo was named the new executive director of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League, the Sheriff’s Office announced Jan. 2.
Growing up in North Fair Oaks, Cornejo once participated in SAL programs herself, and she said she is honored to serve as its executive director and under Sheriff Christina Corpus’ leadership.
“The hiring of Maggie is a direct investment into the youth of San Mateo County who benefit from SAL’s extensive programs,” Corpus wrote in a press release. “I am confident Maggie’s professional and personal experience will be a great asset to SAL and the thousands of San Mateo County youth we serve every year.”
Cornejo previously served as the director of Government Relations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula, and has over a decade of experience in local government including as a legislative aide to San Mateo County Supervisor Warren Slocum.
“Cornejo has built a reputation as a coalition builder throughout San Mateo County,” the press release said.
The Sheriff’s Activities League was founded in 1997 as an effort to aid in the intervention and prevention of juvenile delinquency in the county through programming, presentations and special events that fosters relationships between youth and deputies.
Her entire career has been “driven by my passion to create opportunities for youth,” Cornejo said.
Nice Christina, but what about hiring competent replacements for your bare bone executive (leadership) staff? Oh right, no law enforcement executive, processing a sound mind and body, would ruin their professional reputation by attaching themselves to your leadership team. How do u sleep at night?
