U.S. Rep. Kevin Mullin, D-South San Francisco, is working toward building support for a recently-introduced bill to boost the federal poverty line, he said during an event detailing cost of living challenges in San Mateo County.

More than 1 in 4 households in San Mateo County fall underneath the $141,315 cost metric of what it really costs to make ends meet in the area for a family of four, Henry Gascon, director of program and policy development of United Way of California, said.

Not So Common

Mullin could you imagine how many Americans could keep their hard earned money if you and your bleeding heart democrat cohorts stopped creating victims out of people who made bad choices? Anyone who makes $141K a year or even half that amount doesn't have an income problem, they have a spending problem.

Sorry, Mr. Mullin, but I don’t believe anyone wants to subsidize folks making up to $141,315 a year for a family of four. Now, if you propose upping everyone’s salary to $141,315 a year for a family of four, you might gain some traction. Until then, all the sob stories in the world won’t help. After all, nobody is forced to live in California or the Bay Area. Perhaps instead, Mr. Mullin can create a non-profit consisting of folks with the same mindset that will donate to the cause to help the folks he wants to help. I’m sure many would be okay with that, but what are the chances that will happen? Virtually zero is my prediction.
