Redwood City officers arrested a man earlier this week after he was accused of pointing a gun at another customer at a gym last month, according to police.
Officers with the Redwood City Police Department were called at 2:49 a.m. on Dec. 15 to Planet Fitness in the 200 block of Walnut Street after a report of a disturbance between two patrons. Police said the argument continued after both men left the gym.
At some point, the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim at close range, police said. The victim was able to retreat back inside the business, and the suspect fled. This was reportedly captured on nearby surveillance cameras.
Investigators later identified the suspect as 38-year-old Louie Yu, whose last known address was in Sharpsburg, Georgia. Detectives obtained search warrants for Yu, his vehicle and a storage locker.
On Wednesday, detectives found Yu inside his vehicle in San Bruno and arrested him. Police alleged Yu was carrying a loaded firearm concealed on his person at the time of the arrest.
A search carried out under the warrants led to the seizure of five firearms, two imitation firearms, numerous high-capacity magazines and more than 1,500 rounds of ammunition, police alleged.
Yu was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of felony assault with a firearm.
Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact the Redwood City Police Department’s nonemergency line at (650) 780-7100.
