Foster City Police Chief Tracy Avelar was sworn in as 59th president of the California Police Chiefs Association May 21 for a one-year term, following her election by the Board of Directors.
Avelar has been in law enforcement for 22 years and was appointed chief of police for the Foster City Police Department in 2019 and has served in every rank in the department since she was hired as a police recruit in 2002. Avelar was appointed to the CPCA Board of Directors in 2020 and was elected vice president in 2022. She has served the association in a variety of capacities, including chair of the Law and Legislation and Finance Committees and member of the Political Action Committee, according to a press release.
“I am incredibly honored to serve as the new president of the California Police Chiefs Association. I look forward to continuing my work with such a dedicated group of professionals who are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities,” Avelar said in the release. “As the second female president, I am particularly proud to represent the progress and diversity within our organization. Together, we will continue to advance public safety, foster collaboration, and uphold the highest standards of policing in California.”
The California Police Chiefs Association represents the state’s 334 municipal police chiefs whose agencies serve over 39 million residents in California.
LittleFoot, Chief Avelar may have been a Police Chief with enough time on their hands due to less crime in their city than any other Police Chief. That being said, I wish the California Police Chiefs Association would follow the lead of the Major Cities Chiefs Association (https://majorcitieschiefs.com/) and release crime reports for counties/cities in California, similar to what the MCCA does for major US cities and a small portion of Canada. But of course in California, someone in CA government would sue to stop publication of this data because it makes CA and Democrat-controlled cities look worse.

22 years in a city with less crime than an Alec Baldwin movie set...gotta love California.
