Seven months after allegedly murdering a young man outside a San Mateo karaoke club, the San Francisco man charged with the crime is still waiting to learn if he'll stand trial for first-degree murder.
Wei An Lu, 22, was arrested only a week after the July 8 fatal shooting but took five court appearances before even entering a plea. Lu was expected to set a preliminary hearing date Friday but was instead ordered back to court March 22 to pick a day. It was the third such delay in setting the date.
The eventual outcome will either free him or send him to trial on charges of murder with the special enhancements of inflicting great bodily injury, use of a gun in the commission of a murder and personal use of a gun.
Lu allegedly fired a gun at Wei Cheng Ma, of Daly City, outside the Aqua Sound KTV Karaoke club at 273 S. Railroad Ave. Ma was shot in the head execution style in the early morning after an argument ensued between two groups of people who were in separate guest rooms at the club.
The fight spilled onto the street outside the club just before the shooting. Ma, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene and Lu fled. He was arrested July 16 in San Francisco. Lu remains in custody without bail.
