DETROIT — Who’s saying a new city of Detroit policy doesn’t make sense? Fittingly, a company that doesn’t make scents for its main products.
The makers of unscented Crystal body deodorant plan to be in Detroit starting Wednesday distributing towelette versions of the product to city employees. Burlingame-based French Transit Ltd. is dispatching teams to three downtown buildings.
City workers have been urged to avoid wearing scented products such as perfume, cologne or deodorant as a result of federal lawsuit settlement. The suit was filed in 2008 by an employee who said a colleague’s perfume made it hard to work.
Fearing the unintended consequence of body odor, representatives for Crystal see their Motown marketing maneuver as a problem-solving public service.
