San Mateo Middle College High School, an alternative education program for juniors and seniors in the San Mateo Union High School District, is accepting applications for fall 2014. The deadline is March 25.
Students interested in the program can contact the Middle College office. Applications are available online or in the district’s counseling offices and career centers.
Kindergarten and transitional kindergarten enrollment begins Feb. 3 for the Burlingame Elementary School District. Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 for the 2014-15 school year and transitional kindergarten is available to students whose birthday is between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2, 2014. New student enrollment will be on a first-come first-served basis.
Parents should enroll their child at their neighborhood elementary school.
Jane Sun of San Mateo High School is the new student member of the San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees. Her term runs through the rest of the current school year. She may participate in all public board discussions but cannot cast a vote.

The Upwind Summer Scholarship Program has released its new 2014 scholarship application and program dates. It’s due Feb. 28 and the program aims to transform a high school student into a licensed private pilot during the summer between their junior and senior years, free of charge. In partnership with San Carlos Flight Center (SCFC), the Upwind program was created to promote piloting and general aviation, to cultivate interest in aviation as a career, and to address the nationwide pilot shortage.
The San Mateo Unified High School District has approved dates for this year’s upcoming summer school. The program will run from June 9 to July 18 at Mills High School. Additionally, the district’s Summer Bridge for Algebra, Reading Development and English Learning Development for incoming ninth-grade students will be held June 30 to July 25 at Capuchino, Hillsdale, Mills and San Mateo high schools. The trustees approved the dates at its Jan. 23 meeting.
