Peninsula High School’s new principal will be Dr. Barnaby Payne, a longtime educator and administrator, with an approved contract by the San Mateo Union High School District Board of Trustees.
Payne will begin leading the district’s small continuation high school on July 1, a news release from the district read. He will replace Jenora Lewis, who served as the school’s principal for a year.
Payne was previously the principal of Redwood High School in Larkspur since 2022. Before, he was the principal of a middle school in Taiwan for three years, and the principal at two high schools in the San Francisco Unified School District for a total of 10 years. He was a teacher and paraprofessional in the San Francisco school district for over 10 years before that.
“I am thrilled to join the Peninsula High School community,” Payne said in the news release. “I believe deeply in students’ capacity to success, and my leadership is rooted in the conviction that strong relationships and a true sense of belonging are the foundation for academic engagement, achievement and growth.”
The high school supports 10th, 11th and 12th grade students getting on track for graduation. The school has the capacity to serve about 200 students in total.
