Cosmetologist Vivian Gomez will be continuing with her not guilty plea to two felonies — involuntary manslaughter and practicing medicine without a license, her defense attorney Geoff Carr said.
Gomez allegedly directly injected silicone into the model and influencer Christina Gourkani’s buttocks at the Burlingame Marriott April 19, 2023, after which she started to convulse and her fiancé called 911.
Gourkani died of respiratory failure due to pulmonary embolism the next day, which District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said was a result of the alleged illegal silicone injection, per the autopsy report.
The case will revolve around cause of death, Carr said, a scientific issue for which both sides are preparing information. The defense is currently looking into the findings with a pathologist and performing due diligence, he said.
Trial arraignment will occur on Feb. 8, at which point a pretrial conference date will be set, Wagstaffe said.
Currently, Gomez is out of custody on a $200,000 bail, has surrendered both her U.S. and Columbian passports and is instructed not to leave the state of California or perform and medical or cosmetic procedures, the DA’s Office said.
