What's in Season

Plums are sweet and juicy and can be eaten fresh or used in jam-making or other recipes. They are high in carbohydrates, low in fat and low in calories. Plums are free of sodium, cholesterol and are a good source of vitamin C, dietary fiber and contain several antioxidants. Plums are a very popular fruit in Eastern Europe, where they are often fermented and distilled to make a brandy called Slivovitz. Plums and their dried counterparts, prunes, are very helpful in regulating the functioning of the digestive system. Plums are a sweet and delicious way to keep your body healthy, and that’s why plums top the list of What’s in Season this week at the San Mateo Farmers’ Market.
