Mercy 9, NDB 8, 9 innings
Down big early, the Bears came roaring back, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh and winning it in the ninth for the win in a non-league game between sister schools.
NDB (3-6 overall) made a statement right away, putting up five runs in the top of the first inning. The Tigers added two more in the third for a 7-1 lead.
But Mercy (7-2) got back in the game with a four-run fifth, closing to 7-6 and pushing across the tying run in the bottom of the seventh.
The Tigers were poised to take the victory, scoring once in the top of the ninth, but the Bears rallied for two runs to clinch the wild win.
Viviana Reyes homered while going 2 for 3 with an RBI and four runs scored for Mercy. Freshman Fefe Alusa was 2 for 4 with a team-high three RBIs, while Kathleen Graupera added a two-run double.
Freshman pitcher Olivia Eastburn got the win, giving up one run on hit in four innings of relief.
Eliana Crespin had a two-run double for NDB, while Claire Kimball, Skylar Loo, Juliette Ramirez and Allie Dorn all had two hits for the Tigers.
Burlingame 16, Half Moon Bay 5
The resurgent Panthers ran their winning streak to five straight after burying the Cougars on the coast in the Ocean Division opener for both.
It is the third straight game Burlingame (1-0 PAL Ocean, 6-1 overall) has scored double-digit runs.
The Panthers led 1-0 after the first inning, but Half Moon Bay (0-1, 6-2) came roaring back with a four-spot in the bottom of the second.
Burlingame responded with a six-run third and then put the game with three runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth for the mercy-rule stoppage. Kiley Lyons had a pair of doubles and drove in three, while Fiona Wilson added a double and three more RBIs for Burlingame. Brooke Schuman had two RBIs for the Panthers.
Lyons and Aditi Bafna combined in the circle, with Lyons getting the win, allowing one earned run on four hits, while striking out six, in three innings. Bafna went the final three, scoreless innings.
Miranda Sarabia led the offense for HMB, hitting a triple and driving in three runs.
South City 15, Lowell 5
An eight-run bottom of the first carried the Warriors to the mercy-rule, non-league win over the Cardinals.
Madyson Quintanilla blasted a grand slam and drove in a game-high five runs for South City (4-3), with Abby Keith and Sydney Semans adding two RBIs each.
That was more than enough offense for Semans, who pitched all five innings. All five Lowell (0-6) runs were unearned as Semans limited the Cardinals to just three hits.

El Camino 3, Westmoor 1
The Colts beat the Rams for their first PAL Ocean Division win of the season — 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21.
Tyler Lin led the offense for El Camino (1-2 PAL Ocean), finishing with 14 kills, to go along with seven digs. Jordan Gilliland had five kills and four blocks for the Colts, while Rylan Santos guided the offense with 26 assists.
Westmoor falls to 1-2 in Ocean play and 8-5 overall.
Mills 3, Sequoia 1
The Vikings stayed undefeated early in Ocean Division play, beating the Ravens 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 25-9.
Jayden Jiang and Collin Cheng gave Mills (3-0 PAL Ocean, 10-5 overall) a potent 1-2 punch as they finished 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Vikings setter Ian Lin was an assist machine, pumping out 38.
Sequoia (2-1) was led by Grant Park, who finished with a match-high 16 kills.
In other action ...
Jefferson (1-2 PAL Ocean, 1-7 overall) swept South City (0-3, 1-9) — 25-20, 25-15, 25-15.
Woodside (3-0 PAL Ocean) kept pace with Mills atop the Ocean Division standing after sweeping Capuchino (1-2) 25-12, 25-17, 25-20.
Boys’ lacrosse
Menlo School 7, St. Francis 6, OT
The Knights slipped past the Lancers in overtime of a West Catholic Athletic League match.
Palmer Riley scored the golden goal for Menlo (2-0 WCAL, 6-0 overall), off an assist from Caden Chock. Riley scored twice, but it was Tyler Hinkie who had the big day for the Knights, as he netted a hat trick and assisted on a fourth goal.
Senior goalie Benjamin Chock had big game in net, finishing with 22 stops.
Girls’ lacrosse
Menlo School 12, St. Francis 5
The Knights scored five goals in the first quarter on their way to an easy win over the Lancers in the West Bay Athletic League opener for both.
Hannah Bernthal was nearly perfect for Menlo (1-0 WBAL, 4-2 overall) as she filled up the stat sheet. She scored four goals on four shots, assisted on two others, won four draws, three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Ellie Choe also had a big game for the Knight. She netted a hat trick and added a pair of assists. Marin Yamada followed Bernthal’s game plan and scored three times on three shots.
