Lita Fakapelea broke a 29-29 tie late in the third quarter, and the Bears (14-3) led the rest of the way in non-league home game against Fremont-Sunnyvale (9-9). M-A has now won seven of its last eight. The Bears overcame a 23-15 deficit near the end of the first half. Fakapelea finished with 17 points, while Ape Ulukivaiola added seven.

Woodside (12-4) fell 40-32 at home to Pacific Grove (6-11).
Aragon (7-9) claimed a 49-33 non-league victory at Westmoor (7-11).

Boys’ basketball
Serra 64, St. Francis 54
Senior forward Wyatt Blanco erupted for game-high 25 points to get the Padres (2-4 WCAL, 10-6 overall) back in the win column in a home game against St. Francis (0-6, 8-9). Serra has now won two of its last three.
Blanco added four assists and three steals, while senior Tyler Bailey finished with 13 points and five rebounds. Senior Greg Fernandez and junior Jace Cannon also totaled five rebounds apiece, and senior point guard Sebastian Margate totaled five steals.
St. Francis sophomore Weston Edwards had four made 3-pointers to score a team-high 16 points, senior Luke Alexander had 15 and junior Devin Turner had 10 points and four assists.
Burlingame 51, Terra Nova 48
The Panthers (4-2 PAL Bay, 12-5 overall) won their second straight, riding 19 points from big man Lucca Maher at home to down Terra Nova (1-5, 8-10). A 6-4 sophomore, Maher hit seven field goals, including a 3-pointer, and was 4 for 4 from the line. Junior forward Max Robenalt added three 3s and 10 points. Terra Nova senior Kai Gieraths scored a game-high 23 points, and senior Jonathan Martins added 14.
Aragon 61, Mills 34
Aragon junior Qinrun Zhang crushed four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points to lead the first-place Dons (6-0 PAL Ocean, 14-4 overall) to the win at Mills (3-3, 5-11). Leading 25-13 at the half, Aragon blitzed to a 26-8 run in the third quarter. Elias Ausiello and Charlie Platz added nine points apiece for the Dons. Mills was led by junior Jacob Lo’s 11 points.
Woodside 49, Capuchino 42
The Wildcats (4-1 PAL Ocean, 7-9 overall) took a 30-16 lead into halftime and never looked back in a win at Capuchino (2-4, 7-11). Marco Antonino and Luke Grech scored 13 points apiece for Woodside. Cap was paced by senior Christian Rodriguez with a game-high 19 points, while senior Matthew Alas added 10. With the win, the Wildcats maintain a second-place tie with Hillsdale in the PAL Ocean Division standings, one game back of first-place Aragon.
Westmoor 48, Oceana 36
The Rams (1-5 PAL Ocean, 6-12 overall) snapped a five-game losing streak, overcoming a landslide first-quarter deficit at Oceana (0-6, 5-13). The Sharks jumped out to a 17-5 lead in the first, but Westmoor responded with a 13-3 run in the second and jumped ahead in the third. Westmoor senior Austin Prado led all scorers with 16 points, while junior Diego Sotomayor Calero added 12. Catcher Ashkinos netted three 3-pointers to score a game-high 14 points for Oceana, and Dexter Miller had 10.

Hillsdale (5-1 PAL Ocean, 8-10 overall) won its fourth straight 52-27 at crosstown San Mateo (2-4, 8-8).
Sequoia (2-4 PAL Ocean, 8-10 overall) closed out its home quad with 56-46 win over Jefferson (0-6, 6-12).
Sacred Heart Prep (2-2 WBAL, 8-8 overall) fell 63-54 at home to Priory (3-1, 13-5).

Woodside 51, Oceana 27
Ten different Wildcats scored in the game to lead first-place Woodside (6-0 PAL Ocean, 11-3 overall) to a blowout win at Oceana (0-6, 0-12). Sophomore Meadow Long led the way with 12 points, and junior Jaylah Goins finished with eight. Oceana’s Mika Escobedo netted four 3-pointers to score a game-high 14 points.
Aragon 63, Mills 54
Daisy Pantoja Beltran erupted for a career-high 31 points to lead the Lady Dons (2-4 PAL Bay, 6-9 overall) to the win at Mills (2-4, 6-9). Pantoja Beltran’s previous career-best was 30 points, which she scored twice earlier this season. Jayda Parangan, Eva Felix and Jaclyn Ruttenberg added nine points apiece for Aragon. Mills was led by senior Kelly Ho’s 23 points, while senior Amaya Moore added 18.
Hillsdale 56, San Mateo 31
The Lady Knights (3-3 PAL Bay, 12-5 overall) rolled to their second straight win, opening on a 20-7 run and taking a 30-9 lead into the half at San Mateo (2-4, 12-6). Daniella Sierra led the way with 21 points, while Kiara Nitao added 15 for Hillsdale. The Bearcats were paced junior Kaitlyn Schuh’s 11 points.
Terra Nova 42, Burlingame 30
The Tigers (4-2 PAL Ocean, 8-6 overall) used a 17-5 second-quarter run to take over the game at Burlingame (4-2, 9-8). Junior point guard Reese Kelley led Terra Nova with a game-high 14 points, seniro Gabby Dyogi added eight, and senior Danielle Dibble hit a pair of 3-pointers to total six. Burlingame was led by senior Haleh Ansari’s 11 points.
Sequoia 38, Jefferson 17
Sophomore Oliva Macuga scored a game-high 17 points to help the Ravens (2-4 PAL Ocean, 8-9 overall) snap a five-game losing streak with a home win over Jefferson (2-4, 9-8). Sequoia led 24-15 heading into the fourth quarter, and finished the game on a 14-2 run. Winnie Zhu led the Grizzlies with five points.
Capuchino 32, Westmoor 17
The Lady Mustangs (6-0 PAL Ocean, 13-2 overall) pitched a first-quarter shutout to jump out to a 14-0 lead and never look back at home against Westmoor (2-4, 7-10). Sophomore Lorelai Shinn hit three 3-pointers to score a game-high 13 points for Cap, while senior Alana Koenig added three 3s to total nine points. Jhacelyn Capistrano and Kiana Chavez scored a team-high six points apiece for Westmoor.
Nueva School 53, University Prep 19
Senior center Julia Randolph scored 15 points to lead the Mavericks (5-1 PSAL, 8-6 overall) to the home win over University Prep-San Jose (0-4, 1-7). Junior Anjali Mariathasan hit three 3-pointers to add 12 points for Nueva, as the team extended its current winning streak to six games.
Sacred Heart Prep 61, King’s Academy 40
SHP senior Kate Baron exploded for 29 pointers as the Gators (4-0 WBAL Foothill, 7-7 overall) won their fifth straight in a battle of West Bay Athletic League unbeatens at the King’s Academy (3-1, 12-5). Freshman Bella Jansen-Olliges added 13 points for SHP, sophomore Jocelyn Jones scored 11, and junior Maggie Goldstein had 8.

South City (3-3 PAL Ocean, 10-8 overall) rolled to a 53-37 home win in its rivalry game against El Camino (1-4, 4-13).
Menlo (1-3 WBAL Foothill, 11-5 overall) was throttled 74-27 at Pinewood (3-1, 14-1).
Design Tech (7-5) snapped a two-game skid with a 50-34 home win over Calvary Christian Academy (3-5).
