Serra junior Cooper Hipps delivered his first varsity hit in a big way as the Padres rallied for a 4-2 win Saturday in Stockton.

With the game deadlocked 2-all in the sixth, Hipps drilled a two-run triple up the left-center gap to send the Padres (5-1) to the win at 
St. Mary’s-Stockton (2-2). William Walbridge set the table in the sixth with a leadoff triple. Then with two outs, junior Jace Peavey was in an 0-2 hole when he got hit by a pitch, setting the stage of Hipps’ go-ahead three-bagger.
Senior Jack Wessell got the Padres on the board in the top of the first with a two-run single. The Rams fired back with two runs in the second with RBI singles from Dax Hardcastle and Dawson Labarthe.
Freshman reliever Michael Ohman earned the win with four hitless innings of shutout work. Ohman faced two over the minimum, walking one and hitting one batter, while striking out six. The left-hander improves to 2-0 through his first four varsity appearances. St. Mary’s starter Nico Bavaro took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits through six innings of work. The left-hander walked one and hit two batters, but struck out 11 in his first start of the year.
