San Carlos 4, Belmont-Redwood Shores 2
Starting pitcher Will Warner worked 2 2/3 innings to earn the win, and Jack Baskin fired 3 1/3 innings of relief as San Carlos improved to 2-1 in the tourney an advanced through the elimination bracket against Belmont-Redwood Shores at Trinta Park.
San Carlos jumped on top with two runs in the first inning and led wire to wire. Rocco Dito drove in the game’s first run on an RBI groundout to the pitcher to score Graham May, and Dito later scored when Braden Turner reached on an infield error. After a shutdown inning by Warner, San Carlos made it 3-0 on an RBI single by Fletcher Carlson to score Javin Dharmadhikari.
BRS got a run back in the second when Caleb Cardona singled home Tyler Schmierer. But San Carlos made it 4-1 in the third on an RBI single by Dito to plate Turner. BRS threatened the lead in the fifth. After Kyle Lai scored on an RBI groundout from Davey Brown for the second out, Jake Cadenasso walked and Cardona reached on an error. But Baskin buckled down to induce a comebacker and leave the potential tying runs stranded.
Brown, Bradley Sakurai and James Lang pitched for BRS, while BRS’ Joey Douglas led all batters with two hits, and Zac Janin added a double.
San Carlos advances through the elimination bracket to take on Foster City, Thursday, at 5 p.m.
Foster City 4, Menlo-Atherton 2
After Menlo-Atherton tied it 1-all in the top of the fourth, Foster City scored one run in the bottom of the inning and added two more in the fifth to win an elimination game at Trinta Park.
Foster City set the table in the fourth with one-out walks from Henry Russo and Aaryan Fleury. With runners on first and third, Foster City set the wheel steal in motion with Russo swiping home to make it 2-1. In the fifth, Bubba Lupeheke made it 4-1 with a two-run single to center. M-A got a run back in the sixth when Paul Treptow scored on a passed ball. But, with the potential tying run at the plate, Foster City closer Easton Szerenyi induced a grounder to short to end it.
Starting pitcher Paixton Phan took a no-decision, allowing one run (none earned) on two hits and two walks, with four strikeouts, over 3 2/3 innings. Gabriel Chavez earned the win with 1 /2 innings of relief, while Szerenyi notched the save through tw0-thirds of an inning. Taavi Zwerin, Paul Treptow and Evan Sahagun pitched for M-A.
M-A’s Michael Leung led all batters with two hits.
Foster City now advances through the elimination bracket to take on San Carlos, Thursday, at 5 p.m.
