Menlo senior Landon Pretre is nearing the end of a spectacular high school career, winning the West Bay Athletic League individual championship in dominating style Friday.
Pretre covered the 2.95-mile course at the Crystal Springs Cross Country Course in a time of 14:51.0 — more than 20 seconds faster than Crystal’s Benjamin Bouie, who posted a time of 15:12.88.
It was a new personal record for Pretre, who has run only a handful of races this season.
Menlo, which held off Crystal for the team title, had all seven of its runners finish in the top-15, finishing 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th and 13th. There was only two-hundreds of a second separating fourth, fifth and sixth.
Menlo and Crystal took all 10 top-10 spots. Menlo won the team title 23-34 over Crystal.
Pretre and Bouie were the class of the race. Bouie’s teammate, Tarik Baker, finished third well behind the top two. Baker’s time of 15:44.0 was nearly 32 seconds behind Bouie.

On the girls’ side, the team results were flipped, with Crystal dominating in winning the team title over Menlo — 36-86.
Crystal’s Anna Salter led the way with a second-place finish in a time of 18:31.8, but it was Castilleja’s Brooke Oliveira who won the individual championship by crusing the field, posting a time of 18:10.8. Sacred Heart Prep’s Sophie Cheung snuck in for a third-place finish in a time of 18:38.9. Menlo’s top runner was Ariya Kaushek, who was fourth in a time of 18:44.0.
