TEMPE, Ariz. -- Ryan Jensen, competing for a spot in San Francisco's starting rotation, allowed three runs in five innings as the Giants beat an Anaheim split-squad 10-4 Wednesday.
Jensen gave up six hits and one earned run in his fourth spring start. In his previous start against Kansas City, he allowed eight hits and two earned runs in five innings.
The Giants got to starter Kevin Appier for five runs and five hits in the fourth, an inning highlighted by doubles from Edgardo Alfonzo and Rich Aurilia.
Cody Ransom homered in the seventh. Aurilia and Snow each had two hits apiece. Snow and Ray Durham had two RBIs apiece.
Barry Bonds, who leads the majors with seven homers this spring, went 0-for-3 against Appier, but hit a 500-foot foul ball over the parking lot in right field.
Appier later joked that he "nearly killed our second baseman," referring to Adam Kennedy's backhanded stab on a hard one-hopper by Bonds in the third inning.
Notes: Appier allowed seven hits and six runs (two earned) in four innings in his fifth spring start. "I've had great springs and I've had (bad) springs," Appier said. "There is no pattern as to how I've started the year." ... Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said Appier needs to get his command back. "He's trying to come up with a change-up," Scioscia said. "Before we move on to that, we have to make sure he has command of his fastball." ... This spring Appier has allowed 16 hits, 13 runs (nine earned) with eight walks and five hit batters in 14 1-3 innings. ... The Angels' originally scheduled game against the Chicago White Sox Friday at Diablo Stadium was changed to Oakland, but has been switched back to the White Sox. ... The Angels will face Seattle on Monday in Tempe instead of Kansas City. ... Anaheim's Garret Anderson hit his second homer of the spring. Darin Erstad and Eric Owens each had two hits for the Angels.<
