The Bel-Mateo Babe Ruth U15 All Stars advanced to the semifinals of the Pacific Southwest Region Tournament following a pair of wins in Surprise, Arizona Thursday.
In the 8 a.m. opener, deuces were wild for Bel-Mateo as it scored two runs in each of the first, third and sixth innings, on its way to a 6-3 win over Yuma Vipers, despite five errors.
Devin Cuschieri gave Bel-Mateo a 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the first. Nik Janke doubled the lead to 4-0 with a two-run triple in the bottom of the third. Jake Hove also drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.
Max Silicani started on the mound and threw the first six innings to earn his first win of the tournament in his second start. He held Yuma to three runs on seven hits. His defense helped him out by turning a pair of double plays, one in the first and one in the fourth.
R.J. Abad had two of Bel-Mateo’s five hits.

Bel-Mateo got about an hour’s rest before it faced San Benito in 112 degree heat. Trailing 2-1, Bel-Mateo turned the tables on San Benito, scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the win.
It loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth, with Cruschieri tying the game with an RBI single. Frankie Attard put Bel-Mateo ahead with a bases-loaded walk. Nick Chea drove in Parker Crouse for the third run of the inning and Nick Rogers picked up the fourth RBI of the inning on a groundout that plated Attard.
Chea picked up the win on the mound, with a complete-game effort. He allowed two runs on five hits, striking out three on just 82 pitches.
Bel-Mateo will take on Hawaii at 8 a.m. today in a semifinal, with the winner taking Torrance in the championship game a 4 p.m. Saturday.
