As the city of San Bruno's newly appointed representative on the San Mateo County Mosquito Abatement District Board of Trustees, I recently met with Operations Supervisor James Counts who pointed out two ways in which each citizen of San Bruno can help with the control and eradication of mosquitoes.
1. Refrain from putting paper etc. into the storm drain catch basins as this debris helps retain standing water needed for mosquito breeding.
2. Those residents who have drums and/or barrels collecting water need to cover the tops of the drums and/or barrels with 24-mesh window screen. The screen will allow water to get in and will keep mosquitoes out.
