Former San Carlos Mayor Richard S. (Dick) Bishop recently died at the age of 88. Dick and his family lived in San Carlos for 55 years and he was a very active, serving on the San Carlos Planning Commission, City Council and as mayor of San Carlos in 1961.

The pharmaceutical disposal program spearheaded by Supervisor Adrienne Tissier just keeps getting more and more praise and attention. Cities nationwide are adopting similar methods of safely and legally disposing of unwanted or unneeded medications. On Tuesday, Tissier’s office also received another request for help from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency which hopes to use the model.

The Web site of U.S. Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, was honored by the nonprofit Congressional Management Foundation for being one of the best in Congress. Of the 438 House member Web sites analyzed, Eshoo’s Web site was judged to be among the 27 best.

Local Danny Zuko wanna-be and Foster City native 31-year-old Jason Celaya apparently wasn’t the one America wanted. Celaya was trying to score a spot on the musical revival through the latest reality show competition, "Grease: You’re the one that I want,” but was sent home two weeks ago.

Celaya first played the role of the leader of the T-Birds as a senior at Hillsdale High in 1993.

A soapbox was created for the citizens of Burlingame by the Citizens for a Better Burlingame at a "Rant ‘N Rave” session Tuesday night at Copenhagen Bakery, 1216 Burlingame Ave. Speakers were given three minutes to vent or praise the quality of life in Burlingame.

High Tech High Bayshore students are starting fundraising efforts which will conclude early this summer in an effort to keep the school afloat for the students. The group —aptly named Save High Tech High Bayshore Foundation —is utilizing a Web site for updates and donation information. Parent Leslie Ender explained they need a building and are hoping to raise $300,000 to $500,000. If someone has a vacant building, Ender has a school that would love to fill it.

Anyone looking for a good deal on electronics should make a mad dash to CompUSA at the Hillsdale Shopping Center. The company announced this week that it will close half of its more that 200 stores, including the San Mateo store. The store is having a clearance sale. Tower Records cleared out of the same building earlier this year. It’s not clear what store or stores will fill the vacant building.

Former state controller Steve Westly has himself another title: a member of Tesla Motors’ board of directors. Tesla, of San Carlos, builds electric cars and plans to release a $92,000 two-seat roadster this year, followed by a $50,000 sedan. Tesla also just announced plans to open a factory in New Mexico in 2009.
