Editor,
Both columnist Annie Tsai and letter writer Cory David are accurate with their descriptions of Trump’s agenda and his faults as a human being.
However, he did win the election in a convincing fashion so how bad was the Democratic message that someone like this could become our president? The message from the Democrats continues to be he’s awful so vote for us. The Democrats should be smiling if all the economic calamities they expect to happen as a result of Trump’s agenda actually come about. Unfortunately, this is just another example of placing party over the people.
They are rooting for Trump’s agenda to fail, which will hurt Americans, so they will then vote for Democrats. What an awful policy — if Americans suffer enough they will vote for us. There are pieces of Trump’s agenda that I believe most Americans support. Should a pregnant woman illegally come across the border, deliver her baby, who then automatically becomes a U.S. citizen? Should people who are here illegally and have committed crimes be deported? Should able body people be required to work? Should Social Security for low income seniors be tax free? Should we be tougher with countries that impose high tariffs on U.S. goods? The list goes on. However, the Democrats won’t fight for these issues because they don’t want any part of the Republican agenda to succeed which would hurt them at the polls. Party over the people. The higher ground does not exist for either party and we are the sacrificial pawns in their ongoing chess game.

The two party system is the best of all the others. The theory is each party will clear out the corruption of the other party once they get in office. But unfortunately that hasn't been happening for too long a time in California. Republicans might want to stay put as the Dems continue to drive the state into a huge financial crisis. Then they can emerge with clean hands to right the wrongs of spendthrift Democrats.
Yes, the stupidity of the Two-Party System is rearing its ugly head again. One party only has to wait until the other one fails ... and they always do.
"The Democrats are the party that says government will make you smarter, taller, richer, and remove the crabgrass on your lawn. The Republicans are the party that says government doesn't work. Then they get elected and prove it." [P.J. O'Rourke]
And another fitting quote would be about the "glass house" and the rocks thing.
Didn't Moscow Mitch do the same, when he obstructed basically anything and everything Obama was doing and saying? He even obstructed his own GOP healthcare bill.
Obama gave them Romney-Care - a healthcare law based on Republican philosophy. And yet ever since it was introduced, Moscow Mitch and his band of TeaParty brothers have done everything to get rid of Romney-Care again and their recent "big deficit-bill" has proven that they are not able of running a government.
As Jamie Dimon recently said "I have a lot of Democrat friends, and they are idiots......big hearts and no brains."
Exactly. The same Democrats that are complaining now about the increase of the National Deficit will happily vote this November to increase the deficit at school districts and public transportation and push for higher overall cost of living in the Bay Area. And then they will complain about it.
This is the second richest county in California and top three in the US. Of course our schools are well funded and of course our transit system is well funded, but voters keeping putting the wrong politicians in charge - and they keep failing on purpose.
It doesn't require too much effort to find out for yourself that our school districts are so rich that the Board of Supervisors is giving their funding back to cities and county (look up CalMatters and 'Excess ERAF'). And if anyone wants to just google 'BART' and ;mismanagement' or maybe add "inspector general" they would find out that BART's problem are self-inflicted by its Board and its leadership.
With just a little bit of self-education, they could never ever possible believe the "Fiscal Cliff" hoax ... but hey, watching another TikTok video is so much more rewarding.
easygerd - you do not seem to care much for our two-party system. Take a peek at the political conundrum in the Netherlands where they have allowed 25 different political parties to send proportionate representatives into their Second Chamber. Their largest party, the PVV, was not even large enough to form a functioning Cabinet of ministers (our secretaries), and decided to withdraw. It is a marginally functioning coalition government suffering from analysis paralysis. The very definition of a SNAFU. With respect to Mitch, no sir, he was, and probably still is, CCP Mitch.
>you do not seem to care much for our two-party system
If it wasn't a failing system, why did 70 million voters say "Make America Great Again" - those voters recognized this system isn't working for them. Now if you asked them when America was Great the last time - they can't answer that either. Which means the system has never really worked they way it was promised.
I would say 4-5 parties is more than enough. Just for kicks, how about a Socialist Party, a center left party, one more center right, one more Libertarian, maybe a green or gray panther group. Maybe one for niche topics or even stupid stuff (those will probably come and go). With more party, congress or parliaments become quickly unruly - as the Netherlands or Italy keep showing.
More modern democracies have therefore something like a 5% threshold. Any party that doesn't get at least 5% of the votes won't get into congress.
Locally you can have more fringe groups depending on city, suburb, rural elections: gray panthers, green party, organic growers, carrot planters, etc.
>With respect to Mitch, no sir, he was, and probably still is, CCP Mitch.
Same difference - knowingly or unknowingly a puppet of the communist party working against US Democracy. (And my bet would be that he knew)
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Howard. The Democrats’ only message is “orange man bad” and is based on their hate for Trump overcoming their love for America. Fortunately, voters understood this and elected our great President Trump, again. Every day, we see Dems lost in the wilderness and doubling down on their hate and hopes for Trump to fail. Their message of hate is only pulling them further and further to the rabid left and fortunately they’ve taken off their masks and are showing us who they truly are. The internet is forever so I imagine we’ll see plenty of campaign ads from opponents highlighting rabid Dems’ tomfoolery, potty mouth, singing, and resistance to making America great again.
"He" is wonderful, and "we" are the "higher ground" as individuals.
