Editor,

In his letter, “Who’s to blame?” published Dec. 5, Kevin Thorpe wrote, “Don’t blame the MAGA voters for Trump’s clean sweep win. Blame the people who did not vote …” Indeed, Vice President Kamala Harris received over six million fewer votes than former Vice President Joe Biden in 2020 while former President Trump increased his support by nearly three million votes, thus winning the popular vote, unlike his 2016 victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Thanks for this and previous letters, Mr. Dawid. Always a pleasure to read your viewpoints and prognostications. If I recall correctly, you submitted a letter in July predicting Biden would announce he wouldn’t seek re-election and he would endorse Harris. I think you also predicted Biden would resign as President and gift the Presidency to Harris. There’s still time so if that becomes true, I’d like to partner up with you on a few lottery number picks.

Meanwhile do you think Biden endorsed Harris as revenge for having been kicked out of running for reelection? Knowing that there was no way Harris would win – allowing Biden to be the only person to beat Trump? It wasn’t just me as many others noticed how much Joe and Jill were beaming at Trump when Trump visited the White House. I get the feeling Joe and Jill voted for Trump. Looking forward to future LTEs, Mr. Dawid. Keep giving us updates from your crystal ball. Maybe we should start a prediction contest…

Thanks, Terence, for your thoughtful and humorous response. I was "hoping" Biden would do the right thing and resign in order to benefit Harris. [BTW, Nate Silver has called on Biden to resign, writing on Nov. 20 that the "world is a dangerous place" and questioning Biden's competency to handle those responsibilities.

I was hoping that Harris would win, but she remained the inherently flawed candidate that she was in the 2020 primary. However, she did the best she could, and, as I noted in my prior letter published Nov. 27, there was no "red wave" this year, at least not in Congress.
