There is really only one candidate who will effectively lead the school districts in this county as county superintendent and that is Gary Waddell. He has been the “second-in-command” at the county office for several years and in that role has been responsible for reviewing and accrediting every school district budget in this county. This critical role has allowed Gary to become intimately familiar with the issues each of the 23 school districts deal with fiscally.
Gary is the only candidate that has actually led schools as a principal and has that unique experience to draw upon as he directs the activities of the county office. Maintaining the high caliber of functionality that this county office provides to all the educational staff in the county requires not only an articulated vision but a personality which is inclusive and positive while still able to establish high goals for achievement. Gary’s sensitivity to the needs of children and staff encourages exploration of the highest standards in a congenial environment.
As a former superintendent, I recognize the extraordinary role that an outstanding county office like the one in San Mateo County provides to every educator and, thus, every child in this county. There is only one candidate qualified to assume that role. Along with Jackie Speier, Anna Eshoo, State Superintendent Tom Torlikson, Kevin Mullin, and numerous other thoughtful endorsers join me in voting for Dr. Gary Waddell for San Mateo County superintendent of schools.
