Editor,

I’m responding to Virgil Stevens from the Feb. 11 Daily Journal letter, “Trumps and the Democrats.” In his letter, Mr. Stevens said, “in Trump the Democrats are faced with a politician who has assumed such a commanding ownership of the core issue of our modern capitalism that he only leaves behind meager progressive crumbs on which the Democrats now have to feed.” That comment is laughable. Donald Trump is willfully ignorant of the duties and responsibilities of being president of the United States. Stubbornly, he refuses to listen to expert advise on a variety of issues, such as global warming, ISIS, the economy and tariffs. And the Democrats aren’t eating any crumbs. They are doing the investigative work on Trumps “shady” business dealings with the Russians that the Republican party deliberately avoided when they were the majority in the House of Representatives.

You go Art- the Democrats are the party of open borders, infanticide, socialism, free money if your unwilling to work and illegal immigration. There hard left turn that the new Democrat party is taking only makes Trumps reelection a certainty. Keep investigating Trumps relationship with Russia even after 2 years where there is no evidence. Shows how much Democrats hatred of our president blinds them to anything else especially the running of our country. Democrats are driving themselves right off the proverbial cliff. Geronimo!!!!. Thank God there is no net.

It is rather troubling to see that some have such a low regard for the US Presidency, that an inept and incompetent liar like Donald Trump is not only accepted, but cheered on! He is a laughingstock around the world and not respected or taken seriously by anyone but the most uneducated and uninformed, - while our adversaries appreciate having someone so easy to fool and manipulate. Trump is so childish that he has to brag about himself, including absolutely idiotic statements like “I’m a stable genius” and “No president has worked harder than me!” My goodness, what nonsense! Instead of being embarrassed on behalf of the country, some applaud statements like that, making us all look even worse. The only positive thing I can say about Trump, is that he refused to take a salary, - for doing very little work. Instead, he should be required to pay for all the damage he has done!

Jorg, I can't decide whether you or Mr. Gonzalez has a worse case of TDS. Since I see more of your comments, I'll guess I'll give you the edge. And Liar-In-Chief Obama set the bar so low for the US Presidency that even yourself, if you had a billion dollars, might have become President. Oh wait, that didn't work for Crooked Hillary, so I guess you'd probably still be out of luck. But keep up with the unhinged rants. The day I see your rants stop is the day that I'll probably see pigs fly.

"Vox Populi, Vox Dei"; please don't confuse yourself with God.

That's your standard response, - but what does it actually mean, if anything, and how does it relate to the current comment exchange?

So very well put, Art! I couldn't agree more. Here's another one who hit the nail: Marshall McLuhan's great insight was that our brains (and our reality) are conditioned by media. Donald Trump is a product of television; he's obsessed by it, gauges success by it, can't live without it. His followers live in the alternate reality created by talk radio and Fox News. For them, the hordes of heavily-armed rapists and murderers threatening our borders are as real as a winter storm. Yes, Trump is "post-literate," but that is not our chief problem. Our chief problem is well over one-third of our nation is not only post-literate but illiterate. Without critical faculties to evaluate the hordes of information we consume, we retreat to the comfort of group support, hence the new American tribalism. Absent better education and understanding of new media, things will only get worse.

Well, since I'm an expert on diagnosing TDS, I believe Mr. Gonzalez has an extreme case, so I would advise him to take a chill pill and stay away from the Fake News. Since Mr. Gonzalez is such a believer in listening to experts, will he listen to me? If not, you'll know why President Trump didn't listen to other experts. By the way, there is no such thing as global warming, and soon, there will be no such thing as ISIS. The economy is doing quite well, thanks to the imposition of tariffs. I believe Mr. Stevens was being nice in saying that Democrats even had crumbs to feed on.
